The college's AM radio station was officially licensed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce on August 18, 1922, and given the randomly assigned call letters WKAR. It was the first educational radio station in the state. The first studio was located in Olds Hall, room 111.
WKAR has expanded significantly since its inception. It currently has an AM radio station (AM 870), a FM station (90.5 FM), and a Public Television station (WKAR-TV).
