President Mackey won over the Board of Trustees during a dinner at the Cowles House in November of 1984. He proposed what ended up being the most important action in the school's history for upgrading athletic facilites. He won approval for the following:

All-Events Building (Breslin Student Events Center) $30-million

IM East Facility $6-million

Indoor Football Practice Field $3.8-million

Indoor Tennis Building $1.2-million

Renovation of Jenison Fieldhouse $3-million
