Earvin "Magic" Johnson, an All-State, All-American basketball player who won a state championship with Lansing Everett High School, finally chose to attend Michigan State. He was recruited by 400 universities and declared "I've always wanted to go to Michigan State. Ever since 6th grade I've been going to their games. Once you get that Spartan in you, it's hard to get it out". He would play with MSU for two years and win a NCAA Championship. Johnson was selected first overall in the 1979 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers.
