Robert Clark Kedzie received his M.D. from the University of Michigan in 1851. He served as a surgeon in the 12th Michigan Infantry during the Civil War before being released due to poor health. In February 1863, Kedzie was hired as Professor of Chemistry at Michigan Agricultural College, where he taught until his death on November 7, 1902.
