Title: The New Sparty Statue is Revealed
Description: The new Spartan was made directly from a mold taken from the original Spartan. The original statue is now located in Spartan Stadium.
- The Spartan statue, commonly known as “Sparty,” was cast in bronze at the Artworks Foundry in Berkeley, California
- Height – 9 feet, 7 inches
- Weight – 1,500 pounds
- Girth at shoulders – 7 feet, 7 inches
- Girth at waist – 4 feet, 9 inches
- An official dedication for the new Spartan was held Oct. 8, 2005, as part of MSU’s Sesquicentennial celebration
- The original Spartan statue was made of terra cotta; stood 9 feet, 7 inches tall; weighed 6,600 pounds; was dedicated June 9, 1945
