Title: Bricking Up the U-M's Engineering Arch
Description:

One of the all-time student pranks occurred on the eve of the Michigan State-Michigan football game in 1949. A dozen students decided they would brick up the engineering arch at the University of Michigan campus.

The Spartan students got the measurements of the arch and then practiced bricking it shut. They fine-tuned their system so they could do it in seven minutes. In the early morning hours of "Arch Day", they rolled into Ann Arbor and started putting the bricks in place. But this time, they also were spreading mortar as they placed the bricks. This added time to the process. And, before they could complete their wall, the Ann Arbor police caught them. They were put on social probation for the rest of the term.
