The Basic Course requirements changed after the Michigan State College Faculty approved a modification in March of 1952.
The requirements for students previous to the change in 1952 included five of the following:
1. Written or Spoken English
2. Biological Science
Or
3. Physical Science
4. Social Science
Or
5. Effective Living
6. History of Civilization
Or
7. Literature and Fine Arts
(The fifth basic course could be one of the three basic courses not already taken)
The requirements for students entering Fall 1952 included three of each of the following:
1. Communication Skills
2. Natural Science
3. Social Science
4. Humanities
(Students expected to complete all three quarters in uninterrupted sequence)
