Description:
MSU Reporter David Brown interviews George Alderton, former sportswriter for the Lansing State Journal, about renaming the "Aggies" with their new nickname, the "Spartans". Brown then interviews Terry Fossum, assistant director with the Ralph Young Fund, about the "Save Our Sparty" campaign to restore the original ceramic Spartan statue.
The video concludes with comments to attendees from MSU President John A. DiBiaggio talking about the Spartan statue and its personal meaning to him, Alderton discussing his part in changing the university's nickname, and Irene Jungwirth, widow of the statue's creator (Leonard Jungwirth), discussing her husband's work.
