Footage of the November 1961 game against the Illinois Fighting Illini at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan. MSU Head Coach - Duffy Daugherty; Illinois Head Coach - Pete Elliott. Spartans won 34-7.

In the first quarter, MSU running back Gary Ballman ran in 3 yards for a touchdown, but the point after attempt was no good. In the second quarter, MSU running back Sherman Lewis ran 54 yards for a touchdown, then caught a pass from quarterback Dick Proebstle for a 2-point conversion. Lewis then caught a 57-yard pass from quarterback Pete Smith, and the point after attempt was good. The Spartans would go into the half leading 21-0. In the third quarter, Illinois quarterback Dave McGann ran in 12 yards for a Fighting Illini touchdown.

The Spartans would score two more times in the fourth quarter, with a 56-yard run from Ballman (point after failed), and a 29-yard pass to wide receiver Lonnie Sanders (point after good). Additional footage includes the raising of the American flag before the start of the game, and the Spartan Marching Band performing their pregame and halftime routines.
