Description:

Footage of the November 1961 game against the Purdue Boilermakers at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana. MSU Head Coach - Duffy Daugherty; Purdue Head Coach - Jack Mollenkopf. Spartans lost 6-7.

A Dad's Day crowd of 45,638 were in attendance. The film begins with the Spartan team warming up on the field. The Boilermaker Special III train rides in front of the crowd, and the Purdue Big Bass Drum is wheeled into the stadium as the Purdue All-American Marching Band performs under the direction of Al G. Wright. The stadium card section makes an image of the American flag, and a cannon is fired at one of the end zones.

Near the end of the first quarter, Michigan State offensive lineman Charles Brown intercepts a pass. In the beginning of the second quarter, Michigan State fullback George Saimes runs the ball 11 yards for a touchdown, but the point-after attempt is no good. In the third quarter, Purdue quarterback Ron DiGravio connects a 15-yard touchdown pass to running back Tom Boris. Omer "Skip" Ohl kicks the winning point after, upsetting the Spartans' chance at a Big Ten championship.
