She completed her BA and MA in English at UH Mānoa and her PhD in Rhetoric and Writing at Michigan State University, where she focused on cultural rhetorics, digital rhetorics, identity, self-representation, and language diversity. Dr. Tasaka was interviewed by Sharieka Botex, Nick Buonanni, Grace Pregent, and Colton Wansitler on August 26, 2020 for the Writing Center at Michigan State University's Oral History Research Project.
