She received her PhD in the Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures program at Michigan State University. Her research centers on African American Language, African American Rhetorics, Cultural Rhetorics, and Queer Rhetorics. She was interviewed by Sharieka Botex, Nick Buonanni, Grace Pregent, and Colton Wansitler on June 25, 2020 for the Writing Center at Michigan State University's Oral History Research Project.
