As the Writing Center at Michigan State University approaches its 30th anniversary (1992-2022), we are increasingly realizing the need for gathering our institutional memories in a coherent way and interrogating our narrative(s), including whose stories we tell and how we tell them. During this ongoing oral history research project, which began in 2019, we are conducting interviews and gathering the stories of current and former writing center consultants, staff, faculty, and directors as well as affiliated community members. We are also collecting data from writing center archives and publications from or relating to the Writing Center. Critically examining our storytelling practices and how our organization’s stories are situated within institutional ecologies will inform our strategic planning process moving forward.
