From the reverse side of the photograph: "Charter members of Michigan State College's first Negro fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, pose with their charter after the founding banquet Saturday (May 1) in the Hotel Olds, Lansing. Private presentation of the national charter took place in the afternoon on the campus, and the formal presentation by William Lovelace, national vice-president, was held Saturday evening. Attending the banquet were MSC Dean of Students Stanley E. Crowe, Counselor for Men Dale Faunce, and Registrar Robert S. Linton. Show in the picture are from left to right, front row; William Horton Thompson, Lansing, corresponding secretary; William H. Haithco, Saginaw, vice-president; Herbert H. Burnett, Detroit, president; Calvin Sharp, Pontiac, secretary; Fred Johnson, Grand Rapids, treasurer; and in the back row, Prof. John N.
