State senator, member of committee, 1873 to revise the state constitution; trustee of the Michigan Military Academy; governor 1881-84. Died 1896

David Howell Jerome was the son of Horace Jerome of Tompkins county, New York, and Elizabeth Rose, who came to Michigan in 1828. David H. was born November 17, 1829, at Detroit, MI; married on June 15, 1859, to Lucy Peck. He was an Episcopalian and in politics, a Republican.

He worked as a miner in California in 1853 and then moved to Saginaw, MI where he was a merchant in 1854. In 1862, he was elected state senator, and served six years. He was the chairman of the committee on state affairs throughout his service. In 1873 he was a member of the committee to revise the State Constitution; for several years he was on the board of Indian commissioners, also trustee of the Michigan Military Academy. He was the governor of Michigan from 1881-1883. Governor Jerome died April 23, 1896, in a sanitarium at Watkins, New York.
