Enlisted in company E, 24th Infantry, August 12, 1862, at Detroit for 3 years, age 19. Mustered, August 13, 1862. Commissary sergeant, Dec. 2, 1862. Sergeant major, Jan. 27, 1863. Commissioned second lieutenant, company G, March 10, 1863. Mustered, April 17, 1863. Killed in action at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1, 1863. Buried in National Cemetery, Gettysburg, PA.
