Description:

The relationship between Akers and MSU was mutually beneficial. In 1947 Akers used the $45,000 given to him as a retirement gift by his Dodge associates to establish the Forest Akers Scholarship. He donated a house in Florida (also a retirement gift) to MSU. In the 1950s Akers donated property and money to the university for the construction of a golf course. Years later he donated money to create a second golf course. Akers also set up the Chester L. Brewer Award for senior MSU athletes. In honor of his numerous contributions, MSU named Akers a Trustee Emeritus in 1958, awarded him a honorary Doctor of Law degree, and named a residence hall after Akers and his wife Alice.
