The College Speculum was the second student publication created at Michigan State, which ran from 1881 to 1895. Contents included essays, poems, science reports, book reviews, college news, and notes from alumni. The five editors were elected by two fraternities, two literary societies, and the Natural History Society. Liberty Hyde Bailey was the first editor-in-chief.
