Description:

An anti-ROTC group on campus presented three demands to President Wharton on April 27, 1970. The first was "that ROTC have no access to university facilities on any basis." The second was that there be no relation between MSU and the U.S. Military for the purpose of training officers at MSU. The third demand was that students "receiving ROTC scholarships be given equivalent MSU scholarships." The reasoning used for abolishing ROTC from campus was that 50% of second lieutenants and 70% of Army officers graduate from ROTC. Thus, by abolishing the institution of ROTC, the pipeline of soldiers fighting in Vietnam could be slowed, hastening an end to the War.
