The video begins with an advance press conference in the Great Hall of Wharton Center, then goes to the State of the University Address. MSU President John A. DiBiaggio is introduced by Provost David Scott. DiBiaggio then discusses educational reform, MSU's culture and celebration of its diversity, and the posting of Douglas Fraser as Chair of a new citizens' advisory group. DiBiaggio goes on to announce that the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will now report to the Office of the Provost, and he concludes his address by highlighting achievements of the past year, including the success of the MSU 2000 campaign, and the recent release from jail of Nelson Mandela. Provost Scott ends the video by thanking the women responsible for interpreting the address in sign language.
