A news release attached reads, "The Spartan Statue, one of the largest freestanding ceramic figures in the world, occupies a prominent spot on the Michigan State College campus. Noted Detroit Artist John S. Coppin has depicted the statue with Macklin Stadium in the background and a typical Saturday football crowd, in a painting done especially for the M.S.C. Centennial."
