Description:

Myron Magen graduated in 1951 from the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa. He came to MSU in 1970 to serve as the first dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, a position he held until 1990.

Through his leadership, the College provided primary care physicians who practiced at the community level. Magen took on the tough job of proving to university faculty and others that the College of Osteopathic Medicine was interested in academic quality as well as public service, teaching, research, etc. He worked with a group of university physicians to create the Institute of International Health and under his leadership, the College of Osteopathic Medicine was the first of its kind to develop a medical scientist training program where students who were interested in research could earn a combined Ph.D./D.O. degree. Magen retired in 2002.
